Skin Checks

How often should I have my skin checked?

There is no official guideline to go by. However the Cancer Council of Australia recommends to discuss with your GP if you are in a high risk category for skin cancer it is important to have regular checks. High risk categories include:

  • had a previous skin cancer, including melanoma

  • a family history of skin cancer

  • fair or freckled skin, especially those with skin that burns easily

  • red or fair hair and light-coloured eyes (blue or green)

  • lots of moles on their body

  • worked or currently work outdoors

  • had short, intense periods of exposure to UV radiation

  • actively tanned or used solariums

  • a weakened immune system

  • certain skin conditions, including sunspots.

Completed her medical training and diploma in Obstetrics and Gynecology training in India before moving to Australia. Dr Kiran has worked in various rotations such as the Emergency Department, General Medicine, Surgery and Orthopedics, in Mildura and Canberra Hospitals, before deciding to start training as a General Practitioner. Worked for a year in Queen Street Medical Centre in Moruya.  Has interest in Women's Health, chronic medical problems and skin problems. Can consult in English, Telugu and Hindi (regional and national Indian languages).

Dr Emily joins the practice after working within the Canberra Hospital system. Emily is passionate about combining her interest in community general practice with emergency medicine and has completed her extended skills in Emergency Medicine as well as an Emergency Medicine Certificate through ACEM. She is also interested in public and global/travel health medicine, women’s and sexual health. Prior to medical school, Emily worked in clinical public health; having completed an MPH in Epidemiology in Toronto, Canada. When not working, Emily enjoys hiking, travel, thrifting and scoping Canberra’s restaurants and farmers markets.

Dr Kanwel completed her medical training in Pakistan before moving to Australia. She has worked in various rotations such as the Emergency Department, General Medicine, Surgery and Urology, in Toowoomba and Canberra Hospitals, before deciding to start training as a General Practitioner.
Dr Kanwel found her passion in General Practice and would like to bring all of her vast experience in hospital medicine to provide comprehensive evidence-based medicine to the community. Dr Kanwel likes all aspects of General Practice with a special interest in Women's Health, children's Health and chronic medical problems.

Dr Bushra obtained her basic medical qualification MBBS from Pakistan and has worked across hospital and general practice settings in Pakistan. After moving to Australia, she completed a Masters of Medicine degree from University of Sydney.
Dr Bushra has worked in a variety of diverse clinical environments in Australia including emergency departments, medical and surgical units in The Canberra Hospital, University of Canberra Hospital and North Canberra Hospital. 
She has a special interest in metabolic health, chronic condition management and women and child health. She was also part of the obesity management services in Canberra. 
In addition to her clinical expertise, she has worked in the public health sector and academics in Australia, further broadening her understanding of healthcare systems and community wellbeing. 
Dr Bushra is passionate about general practice and community health and will be a valuable addition to our team.

Dr. Malinda is an accomplished medical professional with a decade of dedicated service in the field. With a specialisation in Emergency Medicine and extensive experience spanning various medical domains.
Having spent three years as an Emergency Medicine Doctor in Australia, Dr. Malinda possesses a profound understanding of acute medical conditions and is adept at handling critical situations with precision and expertise.
In addition to his proficiency in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Malinda boasts comprehensive expertise across diverse medical disciplines. His areas of competence include Child Health, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Sexual health, Orthopedics, and General Medicine.
Dr Malinda's dedication to continuous learning, coupled with his wealth of practical experience, renders Dr Malinda a highly valued asset for the practice

Specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Dr Bhathiya Hannedege is a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist with over 12 years experience. He was trained in Australia and internationally in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and has immense clinical experience.

Prior to being elevated to the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2016, Dr Hannedege was trained as a senior registrar at Calvary Hospital, Canberra and was trained in advanced laparoscopic gynaecology.
He has worked in deferent hospital of Australia including Sunshine hospital in Melbourne, Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, Bendigo Base Hospital in Bendigo and Wagga Wagga Rural referral hospital. His main interests are in general obstetrics and laparoscopic surgery.

He currently holds a staff specialist appointment at Calvary Public Hospital Canberra . He has private appointments in Calvary Private Hospital Bruce.

Dr Hannedege’s practice philosophy is to provide the finest quality, individualised, readily available and most importantly, safe service to women and their partners. He understands that pregnancy may be a time of great anxiety and uncertainty, and is committed to providing support and reassurance at all times while minimising risks to both the mother and baby.
